The Bell Tower Residency 2016

Our 2016 residency will be held from 10-18 September, as part of H.Art.  The selected artist is Justine Cook, who has exhibited in past Ludlow Open shows and in 2011 was artist in residence at the Tarmac Quarry in New Radnor.

Justine’s work captures moments in time, nature & thought, and she enjoys the challenge of materials, finding a lustre and beauty in just about any medium. There is in all her work an elusive sense of the force of motion & process, however still the final piece. Jo King describes Justine’s work as ‘collapsing the distinction between doing & being, between happening & stillness.’

As with our 2014 artist in residence, Andrea McLean, we have invited Justine to make work in response to the history of the tower, church and grounds, as well as their contemporary purpose as places of community, of enterprise and of worship.  Justine will leave behind one piece of work as a legacy of her residency, and will return in Spring 2017 to show us any further work she has made and to discuss her work during the residency.

We are delighted that Justine will be ‘residing’ at The Bell Tower during H.Art this year; she will be there every day and is happy to chat to visitors!  There will also be an exhibition of her work in the Nave of St Leonard’s Church, and as always the community shop and cafe will be open throughout.
